About Us

CgMs Heritage is a specialist archaeological and built heritage consultancy, and the largest independent archaeology and heritage consultancy in the UK.

Our clients range from development companies, to construction companies, to individual homeowners. The company was originally formed as CgMs Limited in 1997 to provide specialist planning, archaeological and heritage consultancy advice to aid clients in their planning application or pre-application process. In August 2014, CgMs Limited became part of the RPS Group Plc and now forms part of a group providing an extensive range of advice on the built and natural environment. Whilst many of the former CgMs Limited teams were absorbed into the existing RPS Group teams, the CgMs Heritage team remains a distinct entity and continues to utilise the CgMs brand.

Archaeology

We offer the full suite of archaeological services, including archaeological desk based assessments, written schemes of investigation, and archaeological fieldwork including evaluation, excavation and watching briefs. We project manage all aspects of archaeological works on behalf of our clients and are available to provide advice on any size of development to ensure that archaeological works are completed in a timely and cost efficient manner.

Historic Buildings

The Built Heritage team is made up of architectural historians, conservation architects, buildings archaeologists, chartered surveyors and chartered planners. Our team has previous experience in local government conservation and design, in Historic England and in commercial architectural practice. With a client base that draws from both the public and private sector CgMs works throughout the UK. Our services range from early advice on the viability of a purchase, to consultations with Local Planning authorities and Historic England through to providing expert evidence at Public Inquiries and appeals.
