Ferrovial Airports has announced that it will roll out a network of more than 25 vertiports across the UK
Ferrovial Airports has partnered with international architecture practice Grimshaw and global engineering, management and development consultancy Mott MacDonald to deliver more than 25 vertiports across the UK.
Vertiports provide infrastructure for landing, recharging, and taking off passengers of all-electric, vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) jet aircraft, such as those being developed by Lilium and Vertical Aerospace.
They are integrated into communities and adapted to the surrounding environment which helps to reduce noise impact and improve energy efficiency, building on Ferrovial’s proposal for safe, high-speed, zero carbon aviation.
‘Emissions-free travel’
“The partnership between vertiports and eVTOLs will provide high speed, affordable, emissions-free travel to millions of people. This network will boost local economies with a new model of regional connectivity”, said Kevin Cox, CEO Ferrovial Airports’ vertiports business.
The announcement follows the recent agreement to develop more than 10 vertiports in Florida, USA.
Ferrovial operates 33 airports around the world and has four in the UK. Its largest shareholder stake is in Heathrow Airport, as well as Glasgow, Aberdeen and Southampton Airports.
