HMS celebrates ‘topping out’ at former Allerton Fire and Police Station as the vacant site is transformed into an affordable housing development
Using modern methods of construction, HMS has installed the roof on the affordable housing development at Allerton Fire and Police Station, for regeneration group Torus.
The scheme will see the Liverpool landmark – referenced by the Beatles in their track Penny Lane – transformed into 40 apartments and 7 homes, to be completed next year as Station Mews.
The roof was constructed offsite and fitted in less than two weeks
This is the first of HMS’ New Build sites to use modern methods of construction to install a modular mansard roof on the police station. This technology has increased the efficiency of the development and is more sustainable than traditional techniques.
Giving a historic building a new lease of life
Construction director, John Barrow, said: “It’s a privilege to be regenerating this iconic building and to be giving it a new lease of life. It’s fantastic to be integrating MMC into a landmark scheme and see an older building modernised in such a unique and exciting way. This ‘topping out’ ceremony is a major milestone for the scheme itself and HMS – showcasing how we are working towards becoming greener and more sustainable across our development portfolio.”
Torus Group chief executive, Steve Coffey, said: “Allerton Fire and Police Station is a notable scheme for Torus and highlights how committed we are to working with the fabric of local communities, not against it. This building is a true local landmark and one I know means a lot to the people of the area, so I am proud to see just how much it has been transformed and the fantastic work HMS has done to get it to this point.”
