Kier has been appointed by the Department for Education (DfE) to deliver a new net zero carbon in operation school for Deyes High School in Maghull
The new net zero carbon in operation school will include over 60 classrooms, a main hall, sports hall, dining and kitchen areas and a part-covered Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA).
Once the 10,000m2 two/three-storey building is in operation, all the original buildings will be demolished – apart from the sixth form block.
Sustainable design features of the net zero carbon in operation school include:
- a full Biosolar green roof
- solar panels
- high performing thermal insulation
- passive ventilation solutions
- Air source heat pumps
- No dependency on fossil fuels for heating or hot water.
A wildlife garden, a nature trail, and a habitat area will also be added

Deyes High School in Maghull is due for completion in 2024
The project was procured through the DfE’s 2017 Construction Framework.
Work is due to be completed in spring 2024, followed by external works completed in spring 2025.
