BIM4Housing has announced a new tranche of Fire Safety Fortnight roundtables, seeking to update fire safety and fire risk management guidance
The Fire Safety Fortnight roundtables follow a similar round of discussion and policy developments two years ago.
Led by BIM4Housing, a voluntary collaborative organisation, these roundtables aim to further enhance the guidance documents and provide valuable insights for the housing industry to ensure safer and compliant buildings.
Previous guidance covers a variety of fire safety assets
In 2021 BIM4Housing volunteers from across the industry developed outputs for essential assets, such as:
- Fire doors
- Fire walls
- Cavity barriers
- Penetration seals
- Fire dampers
- Fire detectors
- Smoke dampers and smoke detectors
- Alarms
- Emergency lights and
- Sprinklers
- Dry & wet risers;Â and smoke vents.
The resulting guidance informed by these outputs offer a step-by-step process to manage risk for each critical asset.
Fire safety assessments must ask:
- What risks does the asset mitigate?
- To what risks is the asset, itself, susceptible?
- What information is needed about the asset, to ensure it performs as required?
- What tasks/method statements/procedures are required to ensure the asset is installed, commissioned, inspected, and maintained properly?
- What level of competency/training needs to be in place?
- How should product changes be recorded?
BIM4Housing encourages all industry voices to participate
The discussions will be conducted virtually, allowing professionals from various locations to participate without any geographical constraints. Participants can expect engaging presentations from industry leaders, interactive panel discussions, and networking opportunities to foster collaboration and the exchange of ideas.
By bringing together diverse perspectives and experiences, BIM4Housing aims to create an inclusive environment where participants can actively contribute to the development of best practices and industry standards.
The Fire Safety Fortnight roundtables will take place from 19th June to 4th July
These roundtables will serve as a platform for industry experts, professionals, and stakeholders to share expertise and exchange insights.
Topics discussed will include building safety regulation compliance, risk management, and the implementation of the Digital Record. The roundtable findings will feed into an update of the 12 fire critical asset’s guidance.
The sessions will be chaired by George Stevenson, BIM4Housing Chairman and Richard Freer, BIM4Housing Director.
