Skanska will build a £158m data centre for global data provider Telehouse in the Docklands area of London
Skanska will oversee the mechanical, electrical, and engineering aspects of the data centre project. The company will install electrical plant systems, as well as air conditioning and ventilation.
A new roof gantry and elevators will be added. Skanks will also replace all the existing cladding, reconfigure the building’s entrances, and install a new gatehouse and fencing.
The project will be the largest of its kind
“We are excited to be working with Telehouse to deliver this project. It is something we are ideally suited for, as we are experienced in delivering a wide range of data centre fit outs” This contract will be one of the largest fit-outs, in terms of financial value, that Skanska UK has undertaken,” said Dan Williams, managing director of Skanska.
Skanska was granted the project after their completion of an initial works package at the data centre as part of a preconstruction services agreement. Skanska’s specialised mechanical, electrical, and public health engineering division will be responsible for managing the project, while the construction work will be carried out by their building team.
Skanska to add to their data centre portfolio
Skanska has a proven track record working within the data centre sector, having completed several projects in this field. Work on the main contract is due to be completed in June 2024.
“Situated at the heart of our iconic Docklands campus, Telehouse South has rapidly established itself as a critically important connectivity hub both for ourselves and our clients,” commented Takayo Takamuro, managing director of Telehouse Europe.
“The ongoing buildout and development of this state-of-the-art centre underlines the high standards of security, sustainability and operational excellence that Telehouse is able to deliver to its data centre customers today,” she concluded.
