As we embark upon a new financial year, it is the ideal time to consider planning for the rest of this year and attempt to anticipate what lies ahead in 2025, with the Residential Construction Statistics platform
As we all know, while it is essential to look to the future, the further ahead businesses try
to plan, the more challenging it becomes.
That is why it helps to have access to tools and information that can guide planning, shape processes and inform important business decisions, especially in the fast-moving and ever-changing housebuilding industry.
Anders Harrison, Data Consultancy Manager at NHBC, said: “It feels like it’s never been tougher for businesses to plan, and I think that is particularly true for the construction
industry, which is often one of the first sectors to be affected by wider economic
factors.
That’s why I believe the Residential Construction Statistics platform will not only be an essential tool for planning, analysis and understanding trends but also for businesses of all sizes to gain insight on the development of the house-building industry more generally throughout 2024 and beyond.”
What is the Residential Construction Statistics platform?
NHBC’s Residential Construction Statistics platform provides access to the most up-to-date house-building construction data and is designed to help users monitor market conditions, identify trends and refine forecasts.
This self-service data portal provides the very latest information gathered from over one million annual inspections of developments nationwide as construction activity progresses.
NHBC Building Inspectors gather data on an individual plot basis to help track the pace of construction through three key steps:
- Registrations: When a developer has registered their intent to build a new home.
- Starts: When the construction of a home begins.
- Completions: When a plot has been signed off by NHBC and is ready to be sold.
And because this data underpins our insurance and technical risk management processes, you know you are working with a tool supported by exceptional levels of accuracy and data-integrity.
In fact, with 10 years of data to aid planning and forecasting, the Residential Construction
Statistics platform enables the investigation of long-term trends through a variety of facets to help users find the information and insights most beneficial to individual businesses.
How can Residential Construction Statistics support your business?
The Residential Construction Statistics platform enables users to visualise statistics and communicate clearly with the option to customise preferred reports with data tables, charts and maps. Users can make the most of NHBC’s extensive historical data whenever
needed, and quickly and easily export the data they have been working with into Excel,
a PDF or PowerPoint presentation.
The platform also includes access to quarterly market commentary from NHBC’s Regional Directors, monthly results from the site sentiment survey and provides access to biannual articles from a panel of housing market experts.
Additionally, you can look at geographical granularity to drill down by location, from a national level through UK International Territorial Level (ITL) groupings 1, 2 and 3, providing access to a range of regional areas.
What are International Territorial Levels?
International Territorial Levels (ITLs) are a standard for referencing the geographical subdivisions of the UK for statistical purposes, used by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). ITL 2 divides the UK into about 40 areas with population ranges between 800,000 and 3,000,000. ITL 3 is even more detailed, dividing the UK into over 170 areas with population ranges between 150,000 and 800,000.
This means users can consider a highly localised assessment through to a UK-wide view, depending on what your business needs.
Can the data be customised?
Each user can create personal custom views that save their filters, sorts, breakdowns or selections, making them available at the click of a button.
Custom views can also be made the default view for each tab.
In addition, a user can choose to subscribe to a report or custom view. Subscriptions email an image or PDF snapshot of a view or workbook at regular intervals helping you keep up to date with data easily and efficiently.
The right levels of support
Residential Construction Statistics packages are carefully designed to help you make informed business decisions. We offer three levels of access, Core, Enhanced and Pro, to suit a variety of businesses and the frequency and level of data required to meet their needs.
And to help businesses get the most value out of the platform and support different departmental requirements, you can also access multi-login subscriptions with discounts for additional user licences.
