Birmingham’s skyline will be updated with a new tower, One Eastside, as Court Collaboration works with Birmingham City University to make it the healthiest it can be

Court Collaboration is working with Birmingham City University (BCU) to develop Birmingham’s tallest tower, One Eastside.

BCU is providing experts in Digital Construction and AI to facilitate the planning.

Birmingham’s tallest tower is utilising digital twin technology

BCU’s experts are creating a digital twin of One Eastside.

This digital twin will provide an overview of the tower, and allow for aspects to be monitored such as air flow and quality, and energy consumption.

This will allow for any issues to be caught early, before construction has even begun, and changes can be made to the plan or solutions can be implemented, and their effects observed, before a brick is laid.

Project co-lead, professor Heseyin Seker, said: “This partnership marks a significant and unique contribution to the digital transformation of the construction sector by creating a digital twin that will make such a tall building digitally driven, healthier, and safer.

“It’s a great example of how BCU is accelerating its research and expertise in digital transformation within the construction and built environment sectors by collaborating with national and international partners in academia and industry.”

The digital twin utilises AI technology

One Eastside will consist of 51 storeys and 667 apartments. With so much to monitor, the digital twin will utilise machine learning and AI to cover their bases.

Alex Neale, chief executive officer, Court Collaboration, said: “It’s exciting to collaborate with BCU on this project. The combination of cutting-edge technology and engaging with some of our city’s brightest minds is fantastic, but to know that the work will deliver enhanced safety and efficiencies across both construction and the future life of the building is exceptional.

“Thanks to the support of our funding partner, Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC), One Eastside will deliver much needed high-quality build-to-rent accommodation in the city centre.”
