Developer Blueprint has unveiled the UK’s first anti-mould supported housing project, the first project of its kind in the UK to use infrared wallpaper technology

The UK’s first anti-mould supported housing project is a former derelict property in Leyland, Lancashire, which has been converted into a 4-bed shared accommodation for vulnerable women.

Developed in response to local authority and housing association needs, the property incorporates several innovative features aimed at improving tenant health and reducing energy costs- and has already secured a Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of B.

The current target set for social housing providers to attain by 2025 is a C rating, as part of the wider ambition to meet the ‘net-zero-carbon’ challenge by 2050.

Energy efficient technology will help reduce bills and overall costs

This is the first supported living build in the UK to incorporate infrared wallpaper technology, which is 400% more efficient to run than a typical gas boiler and comes with a 15-year guarantee.

Additionally, the development includes solar panels, battery storage, and a heat exchange pump, all working in tandem to create an ultra-efficient, sustainable home.

These features present significant savings to the vulnerable tenants, the Housing Association, and ultimately, public funds.

Providing safe living environments to the vulnerable

Connor O’Rourke, director at Blueprint Housing and Investments, commented on the project: “We’re incredibly proud to unveil this supported housing development. Addressing the critical issue of mould in social housing, which has been brought to the forefront by Awaab’s Law, is a key focus for this project. The guarantee that the property will remain mould-free not only supports the tenants’ well-being but also aligns with Blueprint and Ready4Home’s commitments in respect of Awaab’s Law.

Part of a collaboration to reduce homelessness in the North West

The UK’s first anti-mould supported housing project is the first in a partnership between Blueprint and Ready4Home Housing Support CIC.

Both companies view the project as a stepping stone towards future collaborations, aiming to further support the reduction of homelessness in the region.
