The CIF construction safety campaign launches today, running health and safety events up to 25 October

Today marks the launch of the CIF construction safety campaign 2024, a two-week campaign promoting health and safety in construction.

Due to its success, the theme has remained the same as last year’s campaign: Focus on critical risk.

The efforts also support the Irish Heart Foundation

The campaign will also raise awareness for the Irish Heart Foundation (IHF), through spreading knowledge of CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation).

Being trained in CPR adequately can increase the chance that a person will respond well to an emergency by 10 times.

As such, the first week of the campaign starting today is ‘Restart a Heart’ week. This will not only see encouragement for CPR training, but also for heart health in general. This will be undertaken in conjunction with the IHF’s Hands for Life initiative.

The CIF construction safety campaign will also address essential questions for critical risks, including:

  • Do you know your critical risks?
  • Have you controls in place to manage these risks?
  • Are your colleagues aware of these risks?
  • Are the controls in place to protect safety adequate?

The CIF construction safety campaign will hold ‘toolbox talks’

Sean Downey, director of safety and training at the Construction Industry Federation, said: “There’s nothing more important than protecting the health of those who work on our sites and projects.

“Critical Risks are activities undertaken frequently that, if not controlled, could lead to significant injury or fatality.

“On-site risks include working at heights, operating heavy machinery and electrical work, alongside mental health and physical health.

“This year we have teamed up with the Irish Heart Foundation to promote heart health awareness at home and on-site. We’re asking construction companies to complete CPR training in their workplaces to equip staff with this lifesaving skill.”

The CIF construction safety campaign is inviting companies to become construction safety partners and become involved in the activities. You can find out more here.
