Pathway CTM has joined the Home Builders Federation’s (HBF) cause to encourage women to join the construction industry

Pathway CTM will act as a delivery partner for the Women into Home Building Programme.

The programme was originally launched in January 2023, and has seen great success to date

Over 300 women have engaged with the programme

To December 2024, a recorded 313 women have engaged with the programme and have been informed about careers in construction, with 92 following through to complete a work placement and 23 ending up with a job or apprenticeship.

The Women into Home Building Programme includes an online information session and a virtual site visit, a 5-day online insight week to train participants with the required knowledge, personal development sessions for applying to trainee roles, a health and safety in construction introduction, insights into modern methods of homebuilding, a two-week work placement in a local working site, and a contribution towards childcare and travel costs while at the placement.

Women currently make up 16% of the construction workforce, and just 4% of site managers in the home building industry specifically.

Now, Pathway CTM is joining the programme for the Spring 2025 intake, and will work with the HBF to increase the number of women being introduced to careers in construction.

Late last year, a study was undertaken revealing that the already-minority number of women in construction had decreased over 2024, after a slow growth of 12% over the previous ten years.

The report stated that the sector was unappealing for many women, with a gender pay-gap of 43%, an “unliveable” rate of statutory maternity leave pay, and a low number of workplaces offering menopausal leave, being large reasons that women tend to not be interested in a career in construction.

The Women into Home Building Programme is open to register

Those wishing to register their interest can find more information on the Pathway CTM website.

Jenny Herdman, director of the home building skills partnership at HBF, says: “We are delighted to be working with Pathway CTM as the programme’s new delivery partner.

“Our industry faces a significant skills shortage, and we need to ensure we are attracting a broad range of entrants if we are to meet the growing need for housing.”

Chris McNamara, founder and CEO at Pathway CTM, says: “We are thrilled to partner with HBF and home builders across the UK on this exciting project.

“By leveraging our access to recent education leavers and motivated adults seeking career transitions, we have a unique opportunity to bridge the gap and inspire more women into home building.

“This progressive site management programme is an important initiative and Pathway CTM is ready to support the home building industry’s commitment to addressing the gender imbalance in the workforce.”
