BIM4SME has released a report aimed at outlining the aims of organisation and the progress made within the SME community

A new report has been released by the BIM4SME group. The document is the second annual review to outline the aims of the not-for-profit business.

The report revealed the amount of progress made within the SME community when compared to 2013-14, as well as how BIM4SME has helped contractors to utilise BIM.

The report stated: “One of the main purposes of BIM4SME is to support and encourage the SME community looking to engage with BIM.

“For many the questions of “what is BIM?” “Where do I start?” and “What does BIM mean for me?” are often the first.

“With the subject of BIM being so vast and covering the entire built environment industry, they are also the most difficult to find answers to.”

The report outlined the BIM4SME’s BIM clinic. This provides a way for companies to explore how BIM can be used within their organisation and how they can engage with the BIM Process and BIM Projects. The clinic meets three or four times a year, bringing together the SME community to participate in an open discussion on BIM.

The report also highlighted the achievements made by BIM4SME in the past year. This included launching the BIM4SME Awards and the Build Earth Live! event.

“The vision of the future is to create a high performing, transparent digital construction sector that efficiently delivers services,” the report said.

“The SMEs are nimble and can adapt quick with a low cost impact and will be at the heart of this agenda.

“The opportunities for the future will see SMEs in the construction sector exchanging information faster and more efficiently, through the web.

“BIM4SME are not only promoting Level 2 BIM, but are providing guidance for businesses becoming future proof.”

Speaking to BIM+, Vice Chair Andrew Turner said: “The report recaps on the past year and looks forward to the year ahead when we want to build on the success of our events and awards.

“This year we want to have more entrants to the BIM4SME Awards and Build Live as well as reaching more companies at our free BIM clinics.

“We will continue giving advice without a commercial incentive and want to welcome new SMEs to BIM as well as promoting the ways that the existing SME community is excelling.”

The report concluded by setting out plans for the future. It said: “The vision of the future is to create a high performing, transparent digital construction sector that efficiently delivers services.
