A developer is seeking planning permission to redevelop the former Bayer industrial complex into a residential site…

The three and a half acre site that used to be home to pharmaceutical giant Bayer UK may undergo regeneration if planning is approved for a new development.

The site, located in Altrincham, has become something of an eyesore since the firm vacated the industrial complex. Over the last few years it has increasing been the target of numerous arson attacks and vandalism.

However, plans have now been submitted to Trafford Council to build a new residential development that would regenerate the area.

Laurus Homes hopes to build 33 properties and 29 apartments “that would “transform and regenerate this strategic gateway site… into new high quality homes”.

Trafford Housing Trust recently launched Laurus Homes. The housing association has a target of building 100 homes for sale each year. The profits made by the firm will be plugged back into the trust.

Larry Gold, director of Laurus Homes and Trafford Housing Trust’s chief finance officer, said: “The Trust has an unrivalled knowledge of the Trafford area, its housing market and local needs and we have already successfully delivered a range of new build projects across the borough.”

The application was a joint effort between Trafford Housing Trust and Popecrown Ltd, owner of the building formerly occupied by Bayer.

According to the planning application, the development will generate £78,000 per year in council tax and will create around 200 jobs during the construction process.

The plans comprise of 20 three-bed, 11 four-bed, and two five-bed properties. A total of 12 one-bed and 17 two-bed apartments will also be constructed.

Additionally, the plans include 39 parking spaces, as well as garage and driveway parking facilities.

The planning committee at Trafford Council will make a decision on the plans before the end of the year.

Other plans for the site will see house building firm Redrow construct 66 new executive properties to the west of the Bayer complex. This scheme is nearly complete, but the remaining part of the development relates to the properties that back onto Bayer site.
