The managing director of a joint venture between Balfour Beatty and Vinci to win a High Speed 2 contract has been named…

Peter Anderson will take the reins as the head of a joint venture between construction firms Balfour Beatty and Vinci.

Anderson, who has a wealth of experience working on the Channel Tunnel rail link, will lead a bid from the two firms for a High Speed 2 (HS2) contract.

The Balfour Beatty Vinci joint venture was shortlisted in December 2015 and given the opportunity to bid for a share of a £900m contract. This would include enabling works packages on the London to Birmingham first phase of HS2.

Bids are expected to be called in during the spring, with the contract set to be awarded later this year. It is hoped work will then start in 2017.

Anderson was first hired at Balfour Beatty in 1990 as a graduate engineer. Over the years he was involved in some major projects, including three years spent as project director for the Folkestone section of the high speed Channel Tunnel Rail link. He also spent seven years leading rail businesses in delivering projects in the UK and overseas.
