The Isle of Wight Council has launched a new register aimed at matching self-builders with suitable plots of land on the island.
The self-build register will be available to anyone seeking to construction their own property. By registering interest in acquiring plots of land the council can use the information to influence planning, housing, land disposal, and regeneration functions.
Executive member for planning Councillor Julia Baker-Smith said: “Introducing our Self-build Register helps us meet government requirements and will help us understand the level of interest in this as a way of contributing to boosting homebuilding on the Isle of Wight.
“I would like to encourage people or groups who wish to build their own homes and landowners to get involved, to help support local housing market growth.”
The register forms part of wider government plans to assist the self-build market across the country. It is hoped providing information on available land will help increase the number of self-build projects.
