Build UK has announced it has welcomed two new members, who will share and promote best practice across the industry…
Two new organisations have joined Build UK, it has been announced. Build UK brings together the construction sector’s largest main contractors and leading trade associations. It represents over 11,500 specialist contractors, providing a voice for the sector.
J. Murphy & Sons Limited (Murphy) will join as the first new Contractor Member since forming in 2015. Murphy, a global, multi-disciplined engineer and construction company, employs more than 3,000 engineers, professional managers, and skilled operatives. Build UK said it will provide the perfect platform to enable Murphy to demonstrate their capabilities and share best practice with other organisations.
The second organisation to join is Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA). The firm is the third Trade Association to join Build UK this year. ARCA represents over 350 asbestos removal contractors and associated businesses.
The organisation has more than 35 years experience promoting safety in the industry and hopes to work closely with Build UK. In particular, it will collaborate with Build UK to promote one training standard for asbestos removal across the construction industry.
Build UK chief executive Suzannah Nichol MBE said: “It’s fantastic to welcome two new members, Murphy and ARCA, into Build UK membership and we look forward to working closely with both of them.
“We’ve had great success with the recent publication of the Build UK Training and Safety Helmet Colours Standards and these are just the first of many that our members anticipate with a view to driving real and positive change in the industry.”
Bill Merry, business development and communications director for Murphy, said: “Joining forces with Build UK is a great opportunity for us to work even more closely with our partners and peers to share ideas and best practice.
“We hope that together we can help drive the need for innovation and collaborative working as part of the supply chain, so that the construction industry can continue to improve and develop.”
ARCA Chief Executive Steve Sadley said: “The health and safety of the workforce and public is critical with regard to the removal of asbestos, a Category 1 carcinogen.
“At ARCA we are committed to promoting safety and professionalism throughout the licensed asbestos removal industry, and welcome the opportunity to work with other leading trades to ensure asbestos is properly managed throughout the construction industry.”
