Build UK and CITB have launched the Inspiring Construction campaign, aimed at encouraging people to choose a career in construction

The campaign called ‘Inspiring Construction’ provides employers with information, tools and advice to promote construction careers.

The campaign is responding to the Skills Hack at last year’s Construction News Summit where employers and industry representatives explored new approaches to recruitment. Employers wanted to see a more engaging approach to recruitment.

Launching the Inspiring Construction campaign, industry leaders including Build UK’s Chief Executive Suzannah Nichol MBE, Build UK’s new Chairman Mark Castle and CITB’s Chief Executive, Sarah Beale will be speaking at schools, colleges and universities across the country, sharing their career experiences to inspire young people to consider construction.

The campaign hopes to channel the enthusiasm from across the industry to promote construction to the next generation of new entrants, including young people and career changers.

Nichol said: “The industry is committed to changing the way we recruit people into our industry, and I’m delighted that Inspiring Construction provides employers with the tools and resources to deliver inspirational careers engagements to the next generation across the nation. Together we can promote the incredible opportunities we have to offer and share our love of construction.”

Beale added: “Inspiring Construction is all about creating a new mode of recruitment. Through great tools and services such as Construction Ambassadors and Go Construct Matching Service we want to encourage employers of all sizes to get involved. Good information about construction careers isn’t enough, we must inspire the future generation through our passion and drive.”

Build UK and CITB are asking everyone to:

  • Identify inspirational role models to become Construction Ambassadors and offer their time during working hours to deliver inspiring careers presentations;
  • Sign up live construction projects for members of the public to visit as part of Open Doors week in March 2018;
  • Offer site visits, project placements and work experience through the Go Construct Matching Service providing direct engagement with the next generation of talent;
  • Support the new Bridge into Construction college course by offering work experience to give young people a taste of construction.
