A stolen JCB 2CX loader has been recovered thanks to the installation of a battery operated tracking device from AMI Group

AMI Group were able to locate a stolen JCB, by using the wireless, covertly installed battery operated tracking device, within a few hours of it first being reported stolen.

After receiving a call from a customer reporting the theft, AMI immediately placed the AT5 tracking unit into ‘finder mode’ so that the exact location of the stolen machine could be determined.

Carrying out minute-by-minute monitoring, AMI’s monitoring station could see that the JCB had been taken to a location in Bentley, Hampshire near the A31.

The AT5 utilises GPS (Global Positioning System), GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) and RF (Radio Frequency) technology, with highly sensitive assisted GPS positioning accurate to within 1 metre.

To aid recovery efforts, a drone, which works from remote or secure locations up to 7km away whilst streaming footage to the AMI team, was deployed to pinpoint the exact location on site which allowed the police to enter and recover the machine.

Once the AT5 has been installed, both AMI’s monitoring station and the customer can log on to the AMI Nexis based portal or app to establish the exact destination of the machinery.

The AT5, which is only palm-sized at only 54 x 65 x 37mm, currently monitors £475 million worth of assets and offers a battery life of up to 20 years without the need for replacement or recharging.
