The social housing provider, Wates Living Space has been appointed by Sheffield City Council to install new external wall insulation to homes throughout the city

The social housing maintenance provider will add insulation to 174 properties including detached, semi-detached and terraced properties together with bungalows and townhouses.

Refurbishment works such as roofing, structural strengthening and painting will also be provided if needed. This will be the fourth project that the group has worked on in Sheffield since 2016.

On behalf of the council, the group has previously fitted 2,500 doors and 9,300 windows to 1,800 homes across the city.

In addition, Wates is currently working on the council’s three-year programme costing £5 million to adapt and restore private homes to improve safety for elderly and disabled dwellers.

David Morgan, managing director of Wates Living Space, said: “The exceptional standard to which we have carried out our work on behalf of Sheffield City Council to date is all thanks to the fantastic teams we have working across the city.

“Our appointment to deliver these important insulation works is testament not only to the quality of our work for residents but also our efficiency and the due care and attention that underpins everything we do. It is this, along with our commitment to investing in local training and employment, that really sets us apart in the industry.”

Further projects for the group include the three-year £10.3 million initiative to upgrade electrical works to 11,250 public homes throughout the city.

Councillor Jim Steinke, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, added: “We’re very pleased to see this work being carried out as we know how much warm, well insulated homes improve the health and wellbeing of the people who live in them.

“It will mean that the cost of running these homes will be less too due to their increased energy efficiency which will be an added benefit.”

The work is planned to start in September this year and is expected to be completed by Autumn 2019.
