The Queen’s New Year Honours list for 2019 has arrived; here we take a look at those honoured in the construction industry

It may come as no surprise that 2019’s New Year Honours list features only a few construction recognitions, with the failings of Grenfell Tower, Carillion and Crossrail delays pushed firmly into the spotlight, the industry has faced much criticism.

Despite this, here are those within the construction industry who made this year’s Honours list for 2019:

CBE

John Wood, chairman of Tolent Construction, for services to the Building and Civil Engineering Industry.

Kenneth Allison, director of the Environment Agency, for services to the environment.

MBE

Stefanie Stead, regional chair of Yorkshire & Humber Construction Industry Council and principal of Stead & Co., for services to architecture and the construction industry.

OBE

Abolade Abisogun, chief executive officer of Urbanis, for services to Diversity and Young People in construction.

Catherine De Marco, deputy director for Infrastructure Skills and Efficiency at the Department for Transport, for services to Transport Skills.

Professor Hugh Griffiths, Thales/Royal Academy of Engineering Chair of RF Sensors at University College London and Volunteer, Institution of Engineering and Technology, for services to Engineering.

Christopher Harrop, group marketing director and director of Sustainability at Marshalls plc, for services to the Prevention of Modern Slavery and Exploitation.

Professor Raffaella Ocone, professor of Chemical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University, for services to Engineering.

Dr Jennifer Schooling, director of the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction at University of Cambridge, for services to Engineering and Digital Construction.

Dr William Scott, chief executive of the Wilton Group, for services to the Engineering and Offshore Wind Sector and the community on Teesside.

Leon Daniels, TfL managing director for surface transport, for services to Transport for London.

Peter Bennett, managing director of Prefabricated Access Suppliers’ and Manufacturers’ Association and chairman of Access Industry Forum, for services to Business.
