Proposals for a new £14m housing scheme on the outskirts of a county Durham village have been submitted for consent
The new housing scheme includes 49 two, three, four and five-bedroom homes and one and two-bedroom retirement apartments.
The plans are to be considered by the Durham County Council planning department.
If the project is given the green light in February 2020, the development by Akenside Developments Ltd at Syke Road in Burnopfield could create up to 150 local construction jobs including work for apprentices, graduates and trainees.
Much-needed housing
The housing scheme is seen as a much-needed boost to housing stock, including the availability of more affordable properties, plugging a gap in the local market for larger, more energy efficient homes.
The Burnopfield scheme is also expected to boost spending on local leisure facilities and services by up to £40,000 a year, as people move into their new homes.
Designed by architectural firm Ergo Projects, onsite work is expected to start this spring with the first release of the new homes due to be completed by 2021.
