GroupBC has partnered with British Land to provide its BC Enterprise+ common data environment (CDE) solution to the new £3bn town centre at Canada Water in London

The 53-acre project, which is anticipated to take around 15 years to complete, will see GroupBC implement its BC Enterprise+ common data environment (CDE) solution. This will enable a Digital Twin of the entire Canada Water Masterplan as well as using enriched 3D models and mapping information.

The CDE solution’s visual map interface will situate all built assets into its surrounding environment, providing a holistic, thorough view of the entire project.

Canada Water Masterplan

The masterplan, which Southwark Council Planning Committee recently resolved to grant planning permission for, will deliver around two million sq ft of workspace to accommodate around 20,000 jobs, one million sq ft of retail, leisure, entertainment, education and community space and around 3,000 new homes, of which 35% will be affordable.

Wellbeing will also be embedded into the plan, with large green areas, a new town square and a high street. BC Enterprise+, a high-performance and flexible common data environment solution, was selected to help manage the vast amount of built asset data, to offer an unparalleled programme, project and asset delivery.

Sanjeev Shah, partner and strategy and international development director at GroupBC, said: “This solution will offer British Land unlimited user licenses, enabling users to have a 360-degree view of the entire project’s assets pre, during and post-construction, assuring quality and streamlining execution.

“We are delighted to be working with British Land, on what will be a momentous project that will truly make a difference to this area of south-east London.”

BIM standards PAS 1192 and ISO 19650

The common data environment is aligned with BIM standards PAS 1192 and ISO 19650, and will enforce document naming conventions to assure consistency of information. Audit trails will also be retained to track the ‘golden thread’ of accountability – a complete necessity to assure quality building design and performance, and information accessibility.

As well as driving efficiencies during project delivery, on handover, the system will allow British Land to monitor and maintain on-going operations of all built assets across the Canada Water scheme.

A comprehensive, user-friendly CDE which will remove costs, delays and risk, the premium BC Enterprise+ platform will help British Land make informed decisions on how to manage the Canada Water project’s high amount of data. In doing so, it will assure this anticipated masterplan will deliver new buildings and spaces for the benefit and comfort of the ever-expanding Canada Water community.
