Construction work has begun on the Waltham Forest‘s Town Hall Campus site, marking a key milestone in its transformation
The regeneration scheme builds on the legacy of the borough’s year as the first-ever Mayor’s London Borough of Culture in 2019 with opportunities for new leisure, entertainment and commercial spaces, resulting in a significant amount of employment opportunities for local people.
The investment will also provide much needed affordable housing prioritised for local residents.
This is the continuation of the once-in-a-lifetime project to create a new neighbourhood in the heart of the borough. The Grade-II listed Town Hall will be refurbished, preserved, and protected for future generations, with the surrounding areas being opened up to the public with a striking fountain centrepiece.
Phase one of the works marks the largest change to the historic Town Hall and the wider campus since it was first opened in 1941. The approved plans focus on creating an inclusive and welcoming space bringing it into the 21st century.
It will transform the way the council operates and delivers services to residents of the borough, and provide an inviting and revitalised space for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
