Mott MacDonald has been appointed as technical advisor to Ask Patrizia for the proposed £260m riverside arena complex at Gateshead Quays in the northeast of England
Mott MacDonald will oversee design development and verify that the design and build team deliver on their contractual obligations.
Located on the south bank of the Tyne directly in front of the town’s Millennium Bridge and adjacent to Sage Gateshead, the planned Gateshead Quays scheme includes 7,900m2 of conferencing and exhibition space.
The scheme features a 12,500-capacity arena, a conference and exhibition centre, a dual-branded 3*/4* hotel connecting to the exhibition centre, as well as further leisure facilities, including a rooftop bar.
Ask Patrizia has submitted a planning application to Gateshead Council for the development and a decision is expected to be made later this year. If successful, work will begin on-site mid-2021, with the new complex set to open towards the end of 2023.
