The Allegiant Stadium, the new home of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders, hosted its first game in September

The 65,000-capacity stadium, nicknamed the Death Star, is located next to the world-famous Las Vegas Strip and was built by contractor the Mortenson McCarthy Joint Venture, with Arup as structural engineer and architects MANICA and HNTB.

The project was first announced in 2016 when the Raiders franchise made the decision to relocate to Las Vegas from Oakland, California.

The grass field used for NFL games is laid in a 4ft tall sliding tray that moves in and out of the stadium on 72 individual motors.

Construction of the stadium involved 105,00 cubic yards of concrete, 28,000 tons of structural steel, 22 miles of HVAC piping and 7,400 glass and metal panels on the exterior.

A key feature of the stadium’s interior is the 85ft Al Davis Memorial torch, a tribute to the Raiders legendary former coach and owner, billed as the world’s largest 3D printed object.

Although the fully enclosed stadium bowl is climate controlled, no fans will be entering the stadium this season due to Covid-19 restrictions.
