The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers has revealed a series of roadshows dedicated to BIM will be held across the UK and Ireland

BIM roadshows are to be held across the UK and Ireland. The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) announced the series of events, which will focus on digital technologies in the construction sector and outline the relevance of BIM in everyday life.

The first BIM roadshow will take place on the 24 November in Glasgow, with others following in Manchester, Birmingham, London, Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff, Newcastle, Leeds, Bristol and Dublin. The events will examine the practical ways BIM can be applied during the construction process and the role of each stakeholder in this.

Application of technology

During the roadshows delegates will be led through the process from start to finish. The all day events will focus on RIBA Stages 0-7 and will also look at the different software applications as well as the potential challenges that might arise during design and construction.

The roadshows will not focus on why BIM should be used, but rather on how to use technology to increase efficiency, accuracy and quality of information. It will highlight at how BIM can reduce the risk on projects.

The CIBSE also will demonstrate its new BIMHawk toolkit. This will be provided free and will help make data more predictable, easier to transport and less of a burden for manufacturers.

The construction sector must adapt

CIBSE digital engineering consultant Carl Collins said: “The world is changing and the construction industry has to change with it.

“We are increasingly moving from analogue to digital technologies, for reasons of efficiency and transparency.

“Plenty of time has been devoted to selling the concept of BIM and the technology behind it, but we’ve found there isn’t enough practical awareness of how it works, how it can help individuals and what it can do for a project.

“These roadshows are designed to fill that void, and to help people think creatively about BIM and how to use data in new ways.”
