On 30 October, at the buildingSMART International Summit, Anne Kemp UK BIM Alliance Chair will announce that the UK BIM Alliance and buildingSMART UK&I chapter have agreed to merge

UK BIM Alliance will act as the umbrella organisation for buildingSMART UK & Ireland, thereby becoming the UKI Chapter of buildingSMART.

A memorandum of agreement has been agreed by both parties with further, more detailed discussions taking place with a plan to have complete integration by the end of the year.

“Shared common goals and the intention of both parties to work towards a digital Built industry makes this the ideal time to collaborate and deliver the needs of the industry today and for the future,” said Anne Kemp, Chair UK BIM Alliance.

The UK BIM Alliance is the latest evolution of the UK BIM movement. Its context is the digital formation of the Built Environment. Their mantra encompasses that it is not about BIM, but a broader vision for what the industry can be. They want BIM Level 2 to become business as usual by 2020.

buildingSMART UK & Ireland (bSUKI) is one of the national chapters of buildingSMART, the worldwide authority driving the transformation of the built asset economy.   buildingSMART plans to achieve this through the implementation of open Building Information Modelling (BIM) through the creation and adoption of international standards.

The buildingSMART International Summit of 2017 will be held in London, October 30 – November 2.

The venue will be the prestigious Institute of Engineering & Technology in Savoy Place.

The content will include the development of open digital standards for improving the design, build and management of assets in the built environment.

As well as the technical creation activities, there will be a strong focus on those who use and receive the benefit of openBIM with regard to their assets.

The agenda will be structured around the buildingSMART domains; Building, Road & Rail Infrastructure, Product, Airport, Regulation and Construction.
