Three global firms have gained a new BIM Kitemark for Asset Management following the effective management of asset data
Atkins, ENGIE and RTA have made headlines after becoming the first global organisations to become certified to the new BIM Kitemark™ for Asset Management.
The certification, which is awarded by business standards company BSI, aims to help the asset management industry show BIM is integrated into their process.
The BSI Kitemark for PAS 1192-3 is useful for asset managers who face a significant challenge in juggling the scale of information surrounding maintenance, performance and legal compliance requirements of assets.
It builds on the BSI Kitemark for PAS 1192-2 Information management, which launched in December 2016. This focused on the capital/delivery phase of construction projects.
Neil Thompson at Atkins said: “This BSI Kitemark adds to our ISO certification and demonstrates the importance we place in understanding our clients’ data-rich assets. Through the development of a number of BIM standards globally and our group-wide focus on digital asset management, we’re fully committed to reducing costs, controlling risks and improving the whole-life performance of our clients’ existing infrastructure.”
The Kitemark also validates that data and information held about buildings and infrastructure assets has been defined and managed in accordance with BIM Level 2.

The sharing of asset data has wide ranging ramifications for the sector, ensuring a saving of operating costs, enhanced customer satisfaction and increased value of the asset. It also ensures asset information requirements are set at the right levels.

BIM has undoubtedly changed and challenged the way in which the industry approaches building. It has the ability to revolutionise, which is part of the reason behind the success. The UK government has seen the scope of BIM and remains committed to pushing it within the sector to improve efficiency. Elements like the BSI Kitemark provide regulation for the industry.

We’ve developed this scheme to provide the asset management industry with that assurance.”
To achieve the Kitemark, organisations are assessed against the requirements of the standard by BSI’s technical BIM experts.
