McLaughlin & Harvey has become the first construction firm in Scotland to gain BIM Level 2 certification from BRE

A Scottish firm has become the first in the nation to be awarded BRE Global BIM Level 2 Business Systems Certification.

McLaughlin & Harvey, who operate throughout the UK and Ireland, work in civil engineering, facilities management, and construction.

Managing director at McLaughlin & Harvey Construction Barclay Chalmers said: “We are very proud of achieving this highly respected certification, and in particular of being the first construction company in Scotland to do so.

“Being able to formally demonstrate Level 2 compliance not only allows us to expand our engagement with centrally procured government contracts but also gives new and existing clients firm assurance that our processes and procedures deliver best value to a project, including capital and operational predictability.”

Guy Hammersley, BRE Group’s director for BIM, also commented: “Well done to McLaughlin & Harvey. The certification will enable the company to increase its competitiveness in the public and private sectors, save time and money through simplified tendering processes and share BIM’s benefits across numerous sectors.”

BIM Level 2 compliance is a mandatory requirement for firms wishing to tender for public sector contracts. The certification from BRE assesses how capable a business is based on the PAS 1192-2:2013 and PAS 91 standards, as well as the ability of a firm to implement BIM.
