Bentley Systems, a leading global provider of comprehensive software solutions for advancing infrastructure, has announced four infrastructure projects in the UK as finalists in its Year in Infrastructure 2018 Awards programme
The annual awards programme honours the extraordinary work of Bentley software users advancing the design, construction, and operations of infrastructure throughout the world. Twelve independent jury panels of industry experts selected the 57 finalists from 420 nominations submitted by more than 340 organisations.
The infrastructure projects in the UK named as finalists for the awards are in the following categories:
Project Delivery
AECOM – Tideway tunnels C410 central contract
In 2017 AECOM began working closely with Bentley Systems to develop a new way to visualise project performance by unlocking more value from the data-rich ProjectWise Connected Data Environment. The digital project delivery team realised that by leveraging available ProjectWise metadata, it would be possible to improve project performance and automation, and reduce cost and carbon emissions, following construction industry trends.
Using this method, AECOM provided feedback from project usage to guide the strategic direction for the development of ProjectWise Project Insights, which mines the rich seams of data inherent in every ProjectWise scheme and automates the delivery of dynamic visualisations into project performance.
Dragados SA & Transport for London – Bank station capacity upgrade
Bank Station is one of the most complex subterranean railway stations in the UK and is used by more than 52 million passengers annually. Dragados SA and Transport for London was tasked with adding a new passenger entrance with passenger concourse, train and platform tunnel, and passenger connections with triple escalators. Dragados SA and Transport for London used Bentley’s AECOsim Building Designer to produce 2D and 3D design models and ProjectWise to enable a connected data environment.
Rail and Transit
Skanska Costain Strabag Joint Venture (SCS) – HS2 main works lots S1 and S2
The High Speed 2 (HS2) is a new, high-speed rail network being delivered in three phases, with the first phase spanning 200 kilometres between Birmingham and London. Skanska Costain Strabag Joint Venture (SCS) was awarded two civil works contracts to formulate and deliver a design scheme. The multi-discipline design team used Bentley software to implement Level 2 BIM standards to achieve an approved conceptual design for 26 kilometres of high-speed railway.
Reality Modelling
Transport for London – Major Projects Directorate – Deep tube upgrade programme – Piccadilly line upgrade
As part of the Deep Tube Upgrade Programme, an engineering team was assigned to develop the system requirements, specification and design for the upgrade of the Piccadilly Line, to increase its capacity and improve the customer experience through a faster, more frequent and accessible train service. Using Bentley’s integrated modelling and project delivery applications, the team coordinated more than 11,600 project documents and produced highly detailed 3D models and animated renderings which will be used as a foundation for effective project delivery and whole life asset management.
Santanu Das, senior vice president, design engineering for Bentley Systems, said: “We are pleased to acknowledge and celebrate the projects in the UK that have been named as finalists in Bentley’s Year in Infrastructure 2018 Awards program.
“These projects are among the 57 selected this year, which represent the most outstanding going digital advancements in infrastructure by Bentley software users around the world.”
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony and gala on 18 October during Bentley’s Year in Infrastructure 2018 Conference, which will be held at the Hilton London Metropole.
