An international architecture and engineering practice has become the first in Scotland to be assessed under the BRE’s BIM level 2 certification…
Building Design Partnership (BPD) has been assessed and certificated under BRE Global’s BIM level 2 Business Systems Certification Scheme.
The certification scheme is used to assess a business in relation to the BIM policy and capability in PAS 1192-2:2013 and PAS 91. It involves the assessment of the business to meet the requirements of an employer to carry out a BIM capability assessment. It has been designed in a way to enable certificated businesses to show compliance with PAS91-2013 section 4.2. This prevents businesses from having to provide evidence each time they undertake a tender.
BPD has achieved the certification of its Glasgow studio nearly two years before the Scottish government’s 2017 deadline for implementing Level 2 BIM across the public sector estate in Scotland.
The international firm’s London studio was also granted certification under the BRE Global scheme last year. This established the firm as the first in the UK to achieve this standard, highlighting its dedication. The firm has also received certification of BDP’s Manchester and Sheffield studios. BPD’s studio in Dublin was the first in Ireland to join the scheme as well.
Director of Information and Technology at BDP Alistair Kell said: “We are delighted to have taken a leading role, working with BRE Global, in our industry’s adoption of BIM Level 2 standards, which are now an integral part of our day-to-day workflows.”
The certification process involves completing an online application form and submitting necessary documents for review. Following a desktop audit and telephone discussion, a site audit to review processes and procedures at each site is then undertaken by BRE.
BRE Global BIM Scheme Manager Ben Curtis said: “BDP has continued to demonstrate the company’s on-going dedication to BIM, performing confidently in a BIM Level 2 environment across the business.”
BDP is now seeking to gain certification for its studios in Bristol and Birmingham. This would bring all of its offices up to Level 2 BIM standard.
