A new agreement will see Skanska and coBuilder enter a strategic partnership to collect and exploit data for construction projects…
Construction and development firm Skanska has agreed a partnership with product data experts coBuilder.
The agreement will see coBuilder work with Skanska and its supply chain to ensure they have the data required and in the format it is needed.
Skanska will utilise coBuilder’s goBIM tool to enable the manufacturers it works with to easily structure their product information into BIM compatible formats/languages. This will allow Skanska and its subcontractors to access product properties they require.
Additionally, coBuilder’s ProductXchange tool will help Skanska and its supply chain to collect built data needed, then to validate it and check it is correct before it is output as COBie. This will make it possible for Skanska’s clients to receive accurate as built information models.
Gary Scott, BIM and Digital Engineering Specialist Skanska UK, said: “At Skanska, receiving the right information from the right people at the right time is paramount.
“How we manage information is a key part of this, and we want to work with a supply chain that can share the right data with us during the bid and operational delivery stages of our projects, and make future operations and maintenance more efficient.
“We need to work with our supply chain to produce this data in a standardised format that ensures we have the right information to deliver a quality project to our clients.
“Which is why we have selected coBuilder to help us communicate to manufacturers and suppliers what information and format is needed, and to ensure our supply chain has an aligned solution to share their data with us and our clients.”
coBuilder is working with a number of high profile product manufacturers to ensure their product data is BIM-friendly. This will help major contractors like Skanska to access the data they require when they need it.
Nick Tune, CEO of coBuilder UK, said: “All the data that the clients, contractors and FMs require from the manufacturers is available.
“The manufacturers have it already in PDFs and unstructured databases. By utilising goBIM they can structure their data and make it available in all required BIM formats.
“coBuilder’s mission is to digitise the construction industry by making it easy for manufactures to share data and for contractors to collect it, utilise it, and pass on accurate information and data to their customers”.
