The Modular Building Institute’s Modular Advantage March 2024 edition brings the latest research, practices, and companies leading the way to a more sustainable future.
Modular Advantage: Sustainability in Modular Construction
In the March 2024 edition of Modular Building Institute’s Modular Advantage, recent industry developments are recapped, such as the Commonwealth of Virginia adopting ICC/MBI Standards 1200 and 1205.
Panel Built Inc. has debuted ‘E-Houses’ to it’s product line, offering customisable and adaptable prefabricated electrical houses. CEO and President of Panel Built Inc. Mike Kiernan speaks of “hundreds of E-house, substations and generator enclosures for every industry, in every size, and we are ready for this wave.”
Modular needs it’s “moonshot moment”
Founder of True Modular Building Carel van Duuren reflects on the construction industry’s slowness to adapt over history and how a rousing embrace of innovation, a la Kennedy’s famous 1962 ‘Moonshot’ speech, could drive modular construction to new heights.
Some states are already recognising modular’s potential, as the CSA Group explores in “Seizing the modular opportunity”. Canada faces a significant housing shortage, and inconsistencies between provinces and differenct jurisdictions are reductive in some quarters and not clear enough in others. Clearer and more consistent policy approaches could bring the sustainable and affordable modular housing into the mainstream.
Canada also features in the story of Apex Modular Solution’s founder Issa Nesheiwat by Alyssa Kogon, going from Jordan to New York, who took the microhomes of his youth to the next level and is now expanding across the border.
