Ogilvie has completed one of Scotland’s most energy efficient primary schools on time and within budget

One of Scotland’s most energy efficient primary schools has completed. The project, which was undertaken by Ogilvie Construction, was designed to follow the highest standards of efficiency.

Southdale Primary School, which is based in Armadale, includes a number of measures to ensure the building delivers both energy savings and is eco-friendly.

Among the features built into the design is photovoltaic solar panels on the roof, increased insulation throughout the building, and an air-tight design.

Building took place over two phases and the plans comprised of 16 new classrooms, a school nursery, a gym, and a community hall. A full-sized community grass pitch was also laid for community use, as well as a further grass pitch and tarmac multi-user games area.

Ogilvie Construction’s managing director Donald MacDonald said: “We worked closely with West Lothian Council’s design team to ensure that this complex project was delivered on time and budget, creating a high quality facility at the heart of the community.

“The incorporation of modern sustainable materials and innovative energy efficient technology and design makes Southdale one of the most eco-friendly schools in the country.”

Lawrence Fitzpatrick, executive councillor for education at West Lothian Council, also commented, stating: “The project from start to finish was a complex one but ultimately it is about delivering a fantastic educational facility for our pupils and generations to come.”
