It has been confirmed that a 52-year-old man died yesterday(18 January 2023) at the Foresterhill Health Campus site after sustaining head injuries
Graham is the main contractor on the £167m project site to build the new Baird Family Hospital in Aberdeen, due to be completed next year following a two-year delay.
Emergency services were contacted, but the victim, a 52-year-old subcontractor, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Scottish ambulance services confirmed they received a call at 9.37am on Wednesday 18 January to attend an incident on the grounds of the healthcare site.
“Two ambulances, a resuscitation rapid response unit, a paramedic response unit, one of our special operations response teams and a trauma team attended the scene,” a spokesperson said.
The Baird Family Hospital is part of a £244.8m development next to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and will provide maternity, gynaecology and radiology services over 26,000 square metres when complete. It will replace Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, which is due for demolition next August.
Work has been suspended at the Graham hospital site until further notice
Graham confirmed that work had been suspended on site and said in a statement: “We have halted work on site and are liaising with the emergency services and Health and Safety Executive (HSE).”
The firm said it was “deeply saddened” about the incident.
A HSE spokesperson responded to enquiry: “HSE is aware of the incident. We are currently liaising with Police Scotland and will be investigating alongside them.”
