A series of new fire detection qualifications aimed at specific roles in the sector will launch in June at the FIREX event
Earlier in the month, the Fire Industry Association revealed a series of new fire detection qualifications. The four qualifications will focus on the main job roles within the sector, covering both fire detection and alarm systems.
This will include the role of designer, installer, maintainer, and commissioner. The qualifications will be officially launched at the FIREX event, which will be held on 20-22 June.
The four qualifications, which will be provided through new awarding organisation the FIA AO, will work to meet the needs of the industry and were developed in conjunction with employers, recruiters, member organisations, and learners.

During FIREX, the qualifications will be discussed in three seminars presented by FIA’s general manager Martin Duggan. This will give the audience the chance to ask questions and gain a better understanding of how the qualifications will work in practice. Seminars will include details of the different units for each as well as the examination process. FIA’s new Professional Learning and Qualifications Prospectus will also be available in hard copy.
The qualifications will not only give people in-depth knowledge of their field, but will also give a Level 3 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). This is the equivalent of an A-Level or NVQ Level 3.
Registration is available via the FIREX page.
