Andy Powell is Ramboll’s new UK head of BIM as part of the Innovation and Operational Excellence team
His appointment supports Ramboll’s strategic ambition to be a digital leader and follows a doubling of investment in digitalisation and innovation in 2018.
Much of the focus around BIM (Building Information Modelling) in the construction industry has been about 3D models and their data in connection with new build projects. However, Andy’s appointment builds on Ramboll’s pioneering advances in using BIM in a wider digital transformation of industry culture and processes.
Andy is joining Ramboll with 25 years’ experience in the sector and will be responsible for developing and championing Ramboll’s BIM Skills, working practices, standards and tools in conjunction with the Ramboll group BIM organisation, and the Discipline BIM leads in each of the UK Market areas.
After training and qualifying as an architect through the combined architecture and engineering course at the University of Bath, Andy spent most of his career to date working in multi-disciplinary engineering organisations with a focus on the effective application of technology. He also brings significant major project experience in the Transport and Buildings markets.
Mat McNab, Ramboll’s operational excellence director, said: “I look forward to him bringing his considerable and very broad experience to bear in helping us make a step change to our approach to BIM, GIS and Digital Design.”
Andy Powell added: “I’m really delighted to join Ramboll as an organisation that recognises the importance technology is having in our industry and that understands that digitalisation is one of the key challenges facing us in the next few years.
“Having worked with Ramboll through a number of joint ventures in my previous roles, I was aware of the drive and innovative approach of the company. I’m looking forward to seeing more of the great work that is taking place around the business and making sure that people at every level understand the opportunities and implications that digitalisation brings.”
