A three year pay deal worth six percent has been agreed for engineering construction workers …

A new pay deal has been agreed for engineering construction workers. The National Agreement for the Engineering Construction Industry covers 8,600 oil, gas, petro-chemical, and energy workers.

The agreement will see increases to hourly rates of pay, as well as travel and accommodation allowances on a yearly basis. Additionally, a new clause will be added covering free tools for Thermal Insulation members.

From the 4 January 2016, a consolidation of 30p per hour bonus will be added into the hourly rate, as well as a new clause that will ensure non-UK workers are paid within the full terms and conditions of the National Agreement through a UK payroll provider. This will circumvent non-UK companies from exploiting their employees.

A total of 66.8 per cent of Unite and GMB union members voted to accept the deal, which will start on 4 January 2016.

Unite National Officer and Secretary of the National Engineering Construction Committee Bernard McAulay said: “The talks have been challenging in an extremely difficult economic climate.

“This three year settlement shows the commitment of the signatory parties to continue to uphold the founding principles and values of direct employment under the terms and conditions of the national agreement.

“This agreement is essential in delivering the next generation of low carbon energy projects across the UK, which are crucial in facilitating the transition of the country’s existing energy source to a low carbon economy by 2030, whilst providing employment opportunities for the next generation of highly skilled engineering construction workers.”
