Galliford Try has launched its first-ever Menopause Policy, on World Menopause Day, in support of providing a more inclusive working environment

Galliford Try’s new Menopause Policy recognises the taboo surrounding menopause and encourages open conversation through education for all.

The taboo surrounding menopause can prevent individuals from accessing the support they need. Through the menopause policy, the Group commits to providing line managers with the information they need to support members of their teams.

The Menopause Policy allows for necessary adjustments to be made in the workplace

As part of the policy, adjustments can be made at work to help manage menopausal symptoms, such as:

  • Providing more breaks
  • Supporting flexible working hours
  • Arrangements to help manage symptoms
  • Enabling temperature control
  • Providing access to a rest room
  • Offering an Employee Assistance Programme and other sources of support.

Galliford Try signs Menopause Workplace Pledge

The Group has also signed the Menopause Workplace Pledge for employers who commit to actively supporting and informing employees affected by menopause.

Vikki Skene, HR director and executive board member of Galliford Try, said: “Menopause is a natural event and transition that women experience and symptoms can have a significant impact on their personal lives, work lives and self-esteem.

“As a people-orientated employer, we recognise that individuals need different levels of support and our policy aims to provide practical assistance to individuals going through menopause and ensure they feel comfortable discussing their symptoms and needs, as well as equipping managers with the knowledge and resources to provide support for their teams.

“We want to ensure our industry is as inclusive as it can be and we are committed to developing our support and approach over the coming months.”

As part of its long-running Be Well programme, Galliford Try has provided a series of webinars covering male and female health.
