A new system, which has been implemented at the Spurs stadium site, will help prevent illegal workers…
A new system aimed at preventing fake documents from being used by workers is being introduced across major construction sites.
The government has been cracking down on illegal workers, with the Home Office undertaking raids on construction sites. Hiring illegal workers can result in a ÂŁ20,000 fine. As fraudulent documents become increasingly sophisticated it is becoming more difficult to tell these apart from legitimate papers.
The system is currently being used by construction firm Morrisroe at the Tottenham Spurs stadium site. The Ppac Passport Authentication Check system has already discovered fake documents that the Morrisroe team had not identified—despite being highly experienced in recognising these.
Training and Development manager Robert Thompson said: “Some of the fake passports in circulation now are very sophisticated and can get by even the most experienced of checkers.
“The Ppac system is perfect to prevent problems like this. It’s very simple and effective in picking-up fake documents.”
Ppac is able to check passports, visas, skills cards, and other ID documents using a scanner.
Thompson added: “We take great pride in the quality of our workforce and we want to make sure everyone is on site legally.”
Dean Tuhey, spokesman for Passport Authentication Check said: “We have over 14 years of industry experience so we know exactly what issues contractors face and how we can help them.
“Our services are an integral part of the continued clampdown on illegal workers and a growing number of contractors are using us to avoid the problems that identity fraud can create on site.”
