Kier has appointed Gary Wintersgill as its new managing director to lead its regional building activities in Scotland and the North East
Gary Wintersgill will join the business as managing director on 2 December 2019. He will take over the leadership of the Kier Regional Building Scotland & North East business from Brian McQuade who left Kier at the end of October.
Wintersgill has extensive experience in construction and manufacturing. He previously served as managing director of Kier Regional Building’s Northern business for 20 years.
Wintersgill returns to Kier from the structural steel company, Severfield, where he was managing director for the last five years.
Andrew Davies, Kier chief executive, said: “I’m pleased to welcome Gary back to Kier. We have a strong and successful Regional Building business in Scotland & the North East and the extensive experience and leadership skills Gary brings, whilst working alongside our existing highly capable and specialist teams, will help to continue to strengthen our market leading position in Regional Building.”
Gary Wintersgill commented: “I am delighted to be re-joining Kier, as it is a great business with fantastic people within it.
“I am looking forward to being part of the Kier regional team to continue to build on its first class reputation as the leading regional builder within the UK.”
The news comes shortly after Kier appointed former Laing O’Rourke boss as group managing director for the company.
The contractor has also recently been awarded the Shakespeare North Playhouse, which will provide a 350 seat theatre, modelled on the cockpit-in-court design of the 17th century. Along with the theatre will be an outdoor performance garden, exhibition and visitor centre and educational facilities.
