A new apprenticeship scholarship has been launched in Cumbria, which will benefit young people in the region…

Hudson Contract has launched a new apprenticeship scholarship programme, it has emerged.

The scheme from the construction audit, contract, and payroll firm was launched in recognition of its 20th anniversary.

The initiative will see the firm sponsor apprentices by covering their salaries for up to a year. It follows a period of strong year-on-year growth in construction apprenticeships, said Hudson Contract.

According to the figures some 18,290 construction apprenticeship programme starts were recorded in 2014-15, compared to 15,890 the year before.

Managing director Ian Anfield said: “The building trade is one of the biggest apprenticeship employers, and with a serious skills shortage impacting the sector we really wanted to give something back to construction firms.”

Firms can find out more information and apply for an apprentice here:  www.hudsoncontract.co.uk/scholarship. Applications close on Thursday.
