The Electrical Contractors’ Association has appointed a new president…

Building services engineer businessman David Kieft has stepped into the role of president of the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA), it has emerged.

The ECA, which represents building engineering contractors, will see Kieft take over from former president Andy Basham, who had been in the role for two-years. he will be supported by Malcolm Crofts, managing director of D.H. Crofts Ltd. The firm has been a member of ECA for nearly 50 years.

The full ECA Presidential team now comprises of David Kieft, President; Mike Smith (SES Engineering Services), Senior Vice President; Malcolm Crofts, Vice President; and Andy Basham, Immediate Past President.

Kieft, who started his career as an electrical apprentice, has three building engineering firms: RDM Electrical and Mechanical Services, DRS Facilities Management, and EFT Energy Consultants. He has been a strong advocate of business interests in Wales, as well as an active vocational trainer for the sector.

Speaking of his appointment, Kieft said: “As someone who is passionate about electrical and building services engineering, I’m delighted to be taking over this prestigious ECA role as an industry advocate and leader.

“The industry faces a number of major challenges – not least a growing skills shortage – and I am determined to raise the profile of these issues and provide a platform for the industry in general.”

ECA CEO Steve Bratt also commented, stating: “We are delighted to announce that David Kieft has become the ECA’s new President.

“The entire ECA executive team and staff look forward to working with David to further enhance the status of the ECA and the wider engineering services sector.

“I would also like to welcome long-standing ECA advocate Malcolm Crofts to the role of Vice President, and to thank Andy Basham, on behalf of the ECA staff and members, for his active support over the past two years.”
