One of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects is seeking a new construction commissioner to oversee work.
During 2017, the London to West Midlands leg of high-speed rail (HS2) will start work. HS2 is expected to bring significant benefits to the country, connecting the north and south more efficiently than existing rail networks. It will also help to deliver the government’s plans to create a powerhouse in the north.
The commissioner’s role will include investigating any issues or problems that may arise during the construction phase of the project.
HS2 Ltd’s managing director, construction Jim Crawford said: “This new role will ensure that any unresolved complaints are investigated and mediated fairly.
“We want to be a good neighbour throughout the time we build this vital new rail network.
“A Code of Construction Practice will also be put in place as we look to minimise disruption to local residents and businesses.
“But if there are any problems we want people to be reassured that there is an independent commissioner they can look to for additional help.”
