GMB Union has secured a deal to unionise 5,000 HS2 workers, allowing them to have decent terms and conditions

GMB, the union for construction workers has landed a deal to unionise 5,000 HS2 workers.

The union has signed a second access agreement on HS2 – this time with the Align JV which consists of Bouygues, Travaux Publics, Sir Robert McAlpine and Volker Fitzpatrick.

The deal means GMB organisers will have access to staff working on any of Align’s subcontracted works.

Setting the tone for the relationship between GMB and HS2

Charlotte Childs, GMB national officer, said: “This deal will give GMB the chance to make sure thousands of HS2 workers have decent terms and conditions.

“This access agreement, along with the one we signed with Mace Dragados, sets the tone for the relationship GMB will have with the workforce delivering HS2.

“We will talk to construction staff – as well as those engaged in security, facilities management and catering to explain the benefits of trade union membership and collective strength.”

A previous deal was struck between GMB and MaceDragados.
