The 37 university leavers will work within Tarmac, undergoing a two-year placement. During this time the recruits will receive both hands-on experience that will help to develop necessary skills in their field and will complete a formal training programme.

Former recruits see success

The 2016 intake of recruits is the third since the programme started. Tarmac said it had seen success with the scheme to date, with 18 of the 2014 recruits taking full-time positions in the firm after completing the scheme.

Tarmac senior vice-president Martin Riley, said: “Delivering projects of all scales requires skilled people and attracting new entrants to the sector is key.

“Our graduate scheme is just one of the ways that we are demonstrating our commitment to developing our future leaders at Tarmac and enabling individuals to make their mark on our business.”

Louise Aspinall, area technical manager covering the north-east of England and Northern Ireland, said: “Over the last two years, I’ve increased my knowledge and worked across a number of projects, while at the same time undertaking training opportunities offered by the business.

“It’s been a privilege to work on some major infrastructure projects and I look forward to progressing my career at Tarmac.”
