Women across the region are being encouraged to find out more about career opportunities in the manufacturing and engineering sectors at an event this month
Women into Manufacturing and Engineering (WIME) is a project designed to encourage businesses to recruit a diverse workforce and employ more women in manufacturing and engineering sectors
Organisers also hope to encourage female students to consider the STEM subjects – science, technology, English and maths – and careers in engineering and manufacturing sectors. The project is supported by Hull City Council and Green Port Hull.
The local authority is hosting a WIME careers event at the Guildhall on Saturday 22 June, featuring more than 40 of the region’s biggest companies, including Siemens Gamesa, Spencer Group, Smith & Nephew and RB, alongside some of the city’s software and engineering firms.
Exhibiting companies will be represented by female employees so attendees can learn first-hand about what it is like to work for such successful firms companies and find about more about the manufacturing and engineering sectors.
Councillor Stephen Brady, leader of Hull City Council, said: “This is an important initiative that should be backed by everyone in the city. As a council, we are a big supporter of a push that encourages women and girls into jobs in the manufacturing and engineering sectors.
“This is something that benefits Hull because it means that the best candidate is given the job in two sectors that are hugely important for the city.”
