Offsite experts to showcase latest light steel frame developments

The Focus on Framing event returns to The Building Centre in London on 29 January to bring together light steel frame (LSF) manufacturers and industry professionals

The Focus on Framing conference and exhibition will explore light steel frame as a pivotal solution within offsite construction.

Used within numerous sectors from housing and healthcare, to commercial and leisure – light steel frame has endless possibilities.

Event hosts, the Light Steel Frame Association (LSFA), are on a mission to emphasise steel’s sustainability benefits and its role in the circular economy. The LSFA provide a unified voice within the industry to promote the levels of sophistication, innovation and technical expertise within the sector.

Darren Richards – Event chair

Managing director of Cogent Consulting, Richards is an offsite manufacturing expert with over 25 years’ experience developing offsite businesses, processes and products.

David Ellison – Sigmat

With over 13 years in the volumetric modular industry and six years in the load bearing LGSF industry, Ellison is well placed to voice opinions and share his experience within offsite manufacturing. He will be presenting in partnership with Paul Burchell of Willmott Dixon. The presentation will focus upon the Perry Barr redevelopment in Birmingham.

Rebecca Wade – Kier Group

As preconstruction manager for Kier Strategic Projects, Wade actively advocates a design for manufacture and assembly (DfMA) approach across a variety of high-profile schemes. At Focus on Framing she will be presenting Waterside Student Residences – a 1,000 bed student accommodation development for the University of Northampton.

Phil Jasper – Kingspan Steel Building Solution

In 2009 Jasper joined the light steel construction business within Kingspan as construction director and was promoted to business unit director in 2013. He will be presenting a case study on Fallowfield Student Park.

Peter Liddiard – 3e Consulting Engineers

Liddiard is a structural engineering consultant with a specialism in the design of light steel frame and modular construction and a Stage 2 Certifier on behalf of the NHBC. His experience as both an external consultant as well as an in-house engineer, give him a unique set of skills and insights when designing with light steel frame. At Focus on Framing he will be exploring the question, what is possible with light steel framing?

Nicola Carniato – AKT II

As technical director of the structural and civil engineering company AKT II, Carniato is responsible for the technical control of the projects and for leading the technical agenda within the practice. His focus is on the modern methods of construction, sustainability and composite materials. At the event he will be presenting on hybrid structures.

Peter Burchill – EOS

As leading offsite innovators with over 14 years expertise across all construction sectors and now part of Etex – EOS specialise in the design, manufacture and supply of a wide range of bespoke steel framing systems for the offsite markets. Burchill will be partnering up with Richard Wilson from Siniat to discuss ‘why would you specify untested solutions?’

Daniel Leech – Technical Design Services Group

As CEO for the Technical Design Services Group, Leech has worked on some of the most significant buildings on the London skyline. The ambition to make the industry collaborative through BIM practices, upskilled for growth and sustainable for future generations has seen him become a trailblazer for digital innovation and a recognised thought-leader within the industry. Leech will be discussing how to utilise modern methods of construction for transformation and growth.

Steven Odunmbaku – NHBC 

At Focus on Framing Odunmbaku will be delivering an assessment of homes built from light steel frame. The presentation will describe NHBC’s approach to assessment of LSF structures as used in residential construction. He will also cover NHBC certification process, MMC definition & NHBC’s assessment process, examples of accepted systems, and some of the on-going challenging issues the industry are dealing with in using light steel frame.

Michael Swiszczowski – Chapman Taylor

Swiszczowski has experience working on award-winning residential projects, with a focus on the build-to-rent sector, student accommodation and modular construction. He will be delivering a variety of light steel frame case studies at Focus on Framing.

Chris Gatehouse – Trimble

Gatehouse will be displaying how ‘digital grows up’ in his presentation. As regional account manager in the steel team at Trimble, he is dedicated to help fabricators and manufacturers optimise their workflows with efficient and productive digital process adoption.

Brian Alborough – Richard Hopkinson Architects

At Focus on Framing Alborough will be presenting on framing, architecture and the environment. He is the technical director at Richard Hopkinson Architects and his particular expertise lies in developing optimal solutions for the technological and construction challenges of projects, whether these are traditional delivery or offsit /DfMA projects.
