Nuneaton and Bedworth Council (NBBC) have submitted planning applications for a total of 28 modular homes across four sites
The innovative modular homes will range from one bedroom apartments through to four bedroom homes and will be 100% affordable. The sites include Pine Tree Road, Roxburgh Road, Abbotsford Road and Raveloe Drive.
The homes will be built by Ashby and Croft Ltd, at their factory in Nuneaton before being transported to the sites. By using this modern method of construction the speed of delivery can be reduced dramatically and the modular homes will be ready for tenants to move in within this financial year.
NBBC has worked extensively over the past 6 months to ensure the new homes will be:
- Built to National Spaces Standards and provide a well-designed and spacious living environment
- Energy efficient to help to reduce fuel poverty
- Designed to address fire safety issues and will not contain any combustible material within the cavity walls
- Built to NBBC’s own high quality standard which defines specific products to be used during construction ensuring the homes will last a minimum of 60 years.
Councillor John Beaumont, portfolio holder for Housing, Health and Communities said: “This project is a great leap forward in tackling the demand for affordable homes in Nuneaton and Bedworth. The innovative modular method of construction provides a way of providing a spectrum of affordable homes built to high standards within a speedy turnaround.
“The dwellings will be produced entirely in the factory before being transported to the sites which radically reduces build time, allowing for greater flexibility in home production. This approach will help NBBC to address the demand for affordable homes in the Borough at a faster pace than ever before, enabling us to reduce the time residents have to spend in temporary accommodation.”
Head of Home Ownership & Supply in the Midlands for Homes England, Caroline Cormack said: “At Homes England we are committed to promoting modern methods of construction across the industry so it’s great to see NBBC continuing to grow delivery of modular construction as part of the affordable homes programme.”
