The A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross scheme has been given the go-ahead to upgrade the road from a single to a dual carriageway
The Secretary of State for the Department of Transport has given the A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross scheme the green light.
Development consent has been given to upgrade the road from a single to dual carriageway which includes the construction of a new 12.5km offline section and new grade-separated junctions at Chiverton and Carland Cross, and Chybucca.
The majority of the existing A30 will be retained as a local route.
The scheme is located at the A30 trunk road between Chiverton and Carland Cross junctions.
Planning application
The application was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for consideration by Highways England on the 30 August 2018 and accepted for examination on 27 September 2018.
Following an examination during which the public, statutory consultees and interested parties were given the opportunity to give evidence to the Examining Authority, a recommendation was made to the secretary of state on 6 November 2019.
Chief executive of the Planning Inspectorate, Sarah Richards, said: “This is the 80th nationally significant infrastructure project to have been examined and decided within the timescales laid down in the Planning Act 2008.
“The Planning Inspectorate is committed to giving local communities the opportunity of being involved in the examination of projects that may affect them. Local people, the local authority and other interested parties were able to participate in a 6-month long examination.
“The Examining Authority listened and gave full consideration to local views before making their recommendation.”
